Can I learn to defend myself here?
Yes. Some situations will be easier than others to learn to defend yourself in, but we always welcome people that are looking for a practical experience equally to those wishing to study an art.
What is Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu?
Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu represents almost 1000 years of living Martial Arts tradition. Training is based on 9 Ryu (schools) of ancient Japanese martial arts, encompassing a wide range of techniques and philosophies developed in ancient Japan. Bujinkan Hombu Dojo is the training hall for the nine schools under the lineage of Soke Dr. Hatsumi Masaaki of Nodashi, Japan. These schools are
combined to make what is arguably the world's most complete form of self-protection. The Twin Cities Bujinkan Community is committed to faithfully passing on these traditions to all students to provide practical, pragmatic & accessible self-protection.
Is there a [kids, women's, weight] class?
No. We have a female & male instructor & are willing to help you have what you need to feel comfortable engaging in learning. We believe that it is most beneficial to problems solve movement with ALL body types, and would encourage you to eventually branch out into training with all dojo members when you are ready.
If your religion prohibits you from touching the opposite gender we have tools to ensure your learning needs are met without that.
We do address violent & anatomically correct scenarios. We are experienced teaching to very young children. There are ways to make this Martial Art appropriate for a younger audience, but there are themes that will still be realistic & challenging. We would need to have communication with Guardians before taking on students under 18 years of age.
IS IT HELPFUL TO HAVE PREVIOUS MARTIAL ARTS EXPERIENCE?
No & Yes. Every body has their own history. Sometimes it lends itself to the matter at hand, & sometimes it is something to be overcome. Largely, it doesn't matter if you are a blank canvas or not.
I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START...
Come Observe a class. We will ask nothing of you, other than to ask questions if you have them at the end.
